Description: Liver cirrhosis is described as the consequence of chronic liver damage due to multiple causes, including alcohol consumption, viral infections mainly by hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), autoimmune diseases, drug-induced damage, cholestasis, and metabolic diseases. Considering that for the department of Nariño in 2020 cirrhosis produced 34,102 years of potentially lost productive life per person (YPLP), the present investigation is proposed, whose objective is to determine the etiology of liver cirrhosis in patients treated at the FHSP during the period 2022-2023. This is an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective study. To meet the proposed objective, a review of the medical records of patients diagnosed with liver cirrhosis during the period in question will be made, to create a database in the Excel program. For statistical analysis, SPSS version 29 software will be used. Prior approval by the hospital ethics committee guaranteeing compliance with the ethical principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, and justice set forth in the Belmont report, the Nuremberg code and the Helsinki declaration. It is expected to determine the prevalence of the different etiologies associated with liver cirrhosis, as well as the clinical and epidemiological characterization of patients who consult at the FHSP with a diagnosis of liver cirrhosis.
