Michael Weintraub es profesor asociado de la Escuela de Gobierno Alberto Lleras Camargo de la Universidad de los Andes; Director del Área de Seguridad y Violencia del Centro de Estudios sobre Seguridad y Drogas (CESED) de la misma universidad; e Investigador Senior de Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). Sus intereses se concentran en la criminalidad y violencia política y la evaluación de impacto de programas de seguridad y de justicia. Es miembro de la Secretaría Técnica del proceso de Transformación Integral de la Policía Nacional de Colombia. Weintraub ha publicado artículos en las siguientes revistas: American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, entre otras. Terminó su doctorado en Gobierno en Georgetown University en 2014, además fue Predoctoral Fellow en el Program on Order, Conflict, and Violence de Yale University (2013-2014) y Jennings Randolph Peace Scholar en el United States Institute of Peace (2012-2013). Antes de llegar a la Universidad de los Andes fue profesor asistente en Binghamton University (SUNY) por dos años.
